Torres Viña Sol 2011, Catalunya (£5.98-£7.19 Tesco, Asda, Morrisons, Waitrose, Co-op, Sainsbury’s, Majestic)
Perfect sunny day wine, all green pithiness – grass, nettles, lime, apple – but with enough body and bounce to fill out the zestiness. B+
Castillo del Baròn Macabeo 2011, Yecla (£5.95 The Wine Society)
Young, fresh and vaguely citrussy, but just too simple to make anything of an impact. 0
Cune Monopole Rioja Viura 2010 (£8.49 Leamington Wine Company, Nelson Wines, The Vineyard, Edgemond Village Stores, The Bottle Stop, Harborne Wines, Islington Wine, Partridges)
Quite a fat and fleshy little number, maybe lacks zing, but the musky peach, pear and mango flesh and creamy, nutty leesy edge still make for a tasty wine. B
Herencia Altés ‘Benufet’ Garnatxa Blanca 2010, Terra Alta (£12.99 Liberty Wines)
Full fleshy wine, almost like Viognier, with rounded, quite exotic peach, guava and pineapple flavours, notes of toffee, honey and honeysuckle and a clay-like character on the finish. Would benefit from a little more acidity, but still rather good. S-
La Báscula Catalan Eagle Garnacha Blanca/Viognier 2011, Terra Alta (£7.99-£11 All About Wine, Noble Green Wines, Old Bridge Wine Shop, Highbury Vintners, Nathan’s Wine Shop, Wine Utopia, D Byrne, Noel Young, Woodwinters, Red & White Wines, Bacchanalia, Regency Wines, Priory Wines, Llyn Wines)
Good mix of rich, heady peaches-and-cream fruit with more precise pear, melon and apricot flavours, touches of jasmine and wet clay to add further interest, and a fresh finish. S-
