Wine Tasting Video: Sauternes, Tokaji & Pedro Ximenez

Les Lions de Suduiraut Sauternes 2009, Bordeaux, France (£15 per half Averys, Berry Bros & Rudd, Cambridge Wines)
Curious wine, takes a while for the botrytis character to come through, and the slight catty edge seems to suggest a high proportion of Sauvignon (but it’s only 4%). I like sweet peachy vanilla flavours, but it feels very young and unknit, and also a touch simple. I’m carping here – it is tasty, but I was expecting more… B+

Disznókő Tokaji Aszú 5 Puttonyos 2007, Hungary (£25.60/50 cl Waitrose)
Golden in colour, matching intense sweetness with orange and lime marmalade tang, adding in touches of caramelised citrus fruit and vanilla, and finishing with lipsmacking style. S(+)

Gran Barquero Pedro Ximénez NV, Montilla, Spain (£9.39/50cl Waitrose)
Intense and heady, classic rum-soaked raisin & treacle toffee character with a touch of the Buttercup Syrup too. Not as concentrated as some PXs, but all the more drinkable as a result. S-
