Three Douro Reds

Altano Quinta do Ataíde Douro Reserva 2011, Portugal (£12.50 Halifax Wine Company, Cambridge Wine Merchants, vintagemarque.com, Hoults, Bodnant Welsh Food, Wined Up Here, The Jolly Vintner, Cheese at Leadenhall)
Polished, confident style, with herb-infused dark plum and blackcurrant flavours and a touch of spice, rich but never too large, powerful but still sleek. S-

Quinta Nova Referencia Grande Reserva 2013, Douro, Portugal (N/A in UK)
Desperately young (as is the next wine) and currently showing a little too much chewy tannin for current enjoyment. This will soften with time, allowing the plush vanilla-tinged berry and herb flavours to shine, long and voluptuous, never too ripe, very impressive. S(+)

Quinta Nova Grande Reserva 2013, Douro, Portugal (N/A in UK)
A fuller, fleshier style than the Referencia, offering more plump berry and plum flavour but less of the herby wildness. Also touches of tar and smoky bacon (from oak?), plus just a hint of dried grape which adds a little dryness. I prefer the Referencia, but this is still pretty good. S
