Grand Mayne Côtes de Duras Sauvignon Blanc 2016, South West France (£10.64 from the vineyard)
Classic zesty flavours with touches of blackcurrant leaf, quite weighty for Sauvignon, with good mouthfeel – I’d have believed you if you’d said this included some Sémillon – and a slightly salty note on the finish. B+
Domaine du Grand Mayne Côtes de Duras Reserve Merlot/Cabernet 2015, South West France (£13.72 from the vineyard)
Aromas of ripe juicy blackcurrant ooze from the glass, followed by dense plummy cassis flavours tinged with floral hints and notes of herbs and graphite. But thanks to a framework of ripe tannin and fresh acidity, it’s never OTT, and the finish leaves you wanting more. Good now but built to last, excellent value. S
