It’s a line I’ve heard from so many people… ‘Ooh you’re a wine writer…’ Pause. ‘I don’t know much about wine – but I know what I like.’ After I’d heard it for the 148th time, I decided to write a book just for those people. And despite competition from the likes of Oz Clarke and Hugh Johnson, it won the Champagne Lanson Wine Book of The Year prize. It’s a great book for those just getting to grips with wine, and wanting to find out a little more – many beginners’ books attempt to pack in just too much info, and succeed only in confusing the readers. But this one comes in bite-sized chunks – one of the Lanson judges said, ‘Every loo should have one!’ (not for its perforated sheets, you understand)
